Our organic Brazilian mangoes are grown by Pierre on a farm situated in Santa Teresinha, a small village with a population of 4,585 in the state of Paraíba, in the Northeast of Brazil. Situated 7º south of the Equator, this location allows us to produce the earliest mangoes in the Brazilian harvest.
The region has a semi-arid climate, receiving just 700 mm of rain annually, concentrated over a short period (2 to 4 months), followed by long droughts lasting 8 to 12 months. In recent years, this situation has worsened due to climate change, with frequent drought cycles devastating the region, leading to poverty, violence, and migration to other parts of Brazil.
Pioneer of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
Besides offering high quality mangoes, the farm also creates 105 direct jobs, employing over 170 workers during the crop period. It also provides housing to 33 families, currently there are around 115 people living in the farm. There is also a school for children of the employees who live at the farm. The farm contributes greatly to the local social development.
“We strive to support local farmers whenever possible”
The farm hosts the largest Private Natural Reserve in the Sertão da Paraíba, spanning over 350 hectares, where long-term research is conducted. The area supports a rich biodiversity, including 23 species of anurans, 38 reptiles, approximately 200 bird species, and 44 mammals, as well as a diverse flora dominated by herbaceous plants, with over 70 species. The farm collaborates with IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) to identify suitable locations for wildlife reintroduction. In 2018, more than 130 animals, including birds, reptiles, and mammals, were successfully reintroduced into their natural habitat.
